Recording outlets and lights in a property condition report
Outlets, switches and lights affect how a property can be used, but electrical testing can be dangerous. The purpose of a condition report is to record visible locations and safe observations, not to diagnose the system. RoomLedger links photos, rooms, notes and inventory for later review.
Record locations first
Walk through each room and mark outlets, switches, ceiling lights, wall lights, fans or supplied fixtures. Take context photos and close-ups of cracks, burn marks, missing covers, exposed wires or loose switches. Use a fixed reference such as “right of the door”.
Test only when safe
If permitted by the responsible person and safe conditions, record a basic function check with an appropriate device. Do not open an outlet, touch wires or continue near water, sparks, burning smells or unusual sounds. Report hazards through the proper channel.
Record limits and follow-up
Use states such as worked when checked, not checked, needs repair or cannot be verified. Add the date, people present and conditions, then keep the original images and export the report. Explore RoomLedger.
