RoomLedger LiDAR and AR FAQ: What Can the Measurements Tell You?

RoomLedger may support LiDAR or AR space measurement depending on the device and app version. These tools help create a structured estimate for a property; they are not professional surveying equipment. Verify measurements with an appropriate method before construction, a contract, a dispute or an expensive materials order.

How are LiDAR and AR different?

LiDAR uses a depth sensor available on some devices to interpret space. AR uses the camera and device motion to estimate planes or distances. Results depend on light, surfaces, movement, obstacles and device support. A feature name does not mean every phone model provides the same accuracy.

How can you measure more consistently?

Clear obstacles, use even light, move slowly along the wall and hold the device steadily. Measure an important span again from another direction, record the unit and take a context photo. Treat glossy walls, glass, dark corners and cluttered rooms as conditions that can reduce confidence. Do not round a number without noting that you did so.

When is manual measurement needed?

If results vary, the room is not fully recognised or the decision has a material consequence, use a tape measure or a qualified professional. Record the date, device and method beside the measurement. RoomLedger puts measurements next to photos, notes and reports so the reader can understand their context. See RoomLedger, and review the RoomLedger measurement accuracy guide.

Before sharing, ask whether the recipient needs a layout estimate or construction accuracy. Note whether the device has real LiDAR or only AR, whether key edges were rechecked and whether the photos show start and end points. Keep the method and original images with the report.

Note: App measurements can be inaccurate. Check technical requirements and the device before relying on them.
