Should You Measure a Room with an iPhone or Laser Measure in RoomLedger?
Phone sensors, LiDAR, AR and laser measures serve different purposes. RoomLedger stores dimensions, photos and notes in a property; it does not turn a general device into professional surveying equipment. Choose a method based on required accuracy, room conditions and the consequence of an error.
When iPhone or AR may be enough
Quick layout estimates, reference dimensions or inventory context may be suitable for AR on a supported device. Move slowly, keep the phone stable, take a photo and record the unit. LiDAR can improve depth recognition on compatible models, but it still needs checking in the actual room.
When a laser or tape is better
For an important edge, material order, renovation or disagreement, a laser or tape can provide an independent check. Record start and end points, unit, date and person measuring. For technical work, ask a qualified professional instead of relying on one method.
Combine methods in RoomLedger
Store the phone result with an “estimate” note and save the laser or tape result with its method. If they differ, do not average them automatically; find the cause and select the value for the stated purpose. See RoomLedger, and keep the RoomLedger measurement notes with the export.
An iPhone with LiDAR still depends on technique and surfaces, and a laser has its own range and error limits. A dated method comparison is more useful than claiming one tool is always accurate.
Note: Choose the device and standard that fit the work requirement.
