how to start a property in RoomLedger

Where Should You Start a Property in RoomLedger?

A property represents an apartment, house or location you want to inspect. A clear property from the start keeps photos, notes, inventory, meters and signatures from mixing with another record.

Step 1: Set the name and scope

Use a recognizable name without putting unnecessary sensitive address details in a file that will be shared. Decide whether the property is for move-in, move-out, inventory or repairs. If one location has separate units, consider separate properties.

Step 2: Add rooms and checks

Add rooms such as living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, balcony or storage. Prepare checks for walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows, equipment, meters and keys. The structure can grow; it does not need to be perfect before the first inspection.

Step 3: Record evidence

Take wide photos first and close-ups second. Add location descriptions and units for measurements. Mark an item as unchecked rather than guessing. At the end, review empty items and export a dated report or ZIP. Start with RoomLedger.

You do not need to enter an entire home in one session. Complete one room from wide photo to detailed notes, export a test and expand. Read the export from the recipient’s point of view and keep the ZIP or PDF according to your process.

Use an old report as a reference, not as an automatic copy of the new condition. Reobserve scratches and meter readings, record the date and inspector, and agree who can edit or keep the export.

Note: RoomLedger is not a surveying tool or legal advice.
