Checking wood floors, carpets and tile at move-in

Floors may show scratches, chips, swelling, gaps, stains or wear. A close-up may not show the room, while a wide photo may hide the detail. Combining both with a location and date makes a RoomLedger condition record easier to compare.

Divide the room into areas

Walk from the doorway along the walls, beneath furniture and around wet areas. Record the surface type: wood, vinyl, carpet, tile or another material. Take a wide photo first, then close-ups of scratches, chips, swelling, discoloration, seams or lifting edges.

Describe what is visible

Write the location, color, shape, approximate size and observation conditions. If furniture hides an area, mark it unverified. Do not infer a cause from a photo. Near a bathroom or sink, state whether the area was dry or damp when checked.

Review before export

Compare room names, captions and earlier photos where available. Link repair or reinspection notes, export the report and open the PDF or ZIP to verify the files. Explore RoomLedger.

Note: Photos document condition; they do not determine structural quality or legal responsibility.
